Brooklyn Opens!

Babeland Brooklyn Opens Today

Third New York Location for Women-Friendly Sex Toy Boutique Receiving Warm Welcome

Thursday, June 5, 2008— New York City’s premiere place to shop for high quality sex toys and accessories opens in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn today. Claire Cavanah, co-founder, said, “I’m overjoyed that we can bring our mission to this neighborhood that has been my home for ten years. Babeland has so much to offer Brooklyn. Our products, our intelligent and non-judgmental approach to sex, and our fifteen years of experience talking to customers about every aspect of sexuality will enhance this vibrant borough.” The boutique, located at 462 Bergen Street between Fifth Avenue and Flatbush, fits into a mixed commercial and residential block that showcases Bump, a maternity store, Organic Heights, a vegan deli and coffee shop, Unnameable Books, and Pintchik’s Hardware, a neighborhood fixture since 1940.  Cavanah said, “We look forward to partnering with local businesses. We chose this block because the Pintchik’s are committed to revitalizing it and so are our supportive of our business.”

Products Babeland Brooklyn will stock a diverse selection of pleasure-enhancing toys for men and women, all-natural massage oils and body products, condoms, lubricants, DVDs and erotica. In an effort to accommodate the family-oriented neighborhood, the store has been designed with aisles that are wide enough for strollers and the bathroom has a diaper-changing table. Cavanah said, “I talked with the mom’s in my parent groups and at the playground and they all asked me to make sure that I considered their needs. Babeland is a sleaze-free and safe atmosphere. If parents are comfortable bringing their children in while they shop, I’ll do whatever I can to make it easy for them to do so.”

Workshops and Events Babeland’s popular workshops and events are well attended at its SoHo and Lower East Side locations. In Brooklyn, the store will offer a program tailored for neighborhood residents. The “Sexy Mom” series will be a monthly event for mom’s who want to put the zing back in their sex life. Cavanah said, “As a mother, I know how much life changes when you become a parent. Sex doesn’t have to stop or be diminished, though.” Cavanah, the co-author of Sex Toys 101, will facilitate monthly discussions with a guest speaker focusing on such topics as rekindling desire, what it means to be a sex-positive family, body image, and making time for sex.

On June 24th, she will be joined by Esther Blum, author of Eat, Drink and Be Gorgeous: A Nutritionist's Guide to Living Well While Living It Up (Chronicle Books, 2007) and will be sharing information on which foods and nutrients can help boost your sex drive and balance your hormones. In addition, Babeland Brooklyn will host some of the most popular workshops, like How to Please Your Man and informal social events: Babeland Brunch, crafting workshops, date nights, and wine and chocolate tastings.
