Buttplugs made their debut as fashion accessories at Paris Fashion week.

The pretty pendants and brooches upstyled the menswear collection by Walter Van Beirendonck.

Inspired by the conflict surrounding Paul McCarthy’s inflatable Tree sculpture in Paris, Van Bierendonck’s theme is censorship.  The anal accessories brought to the catwalk that which is usually hidden.

The McCarthy sculpture was a giant inflatable “tree.” This particular tree looked unmistakably like a humungous buttplug. Many were offended and the artist was physically attacked and the sculpture vandalized. McCarthy chose to remove the sculpture rather than to be part of a drama that involved risk of physical harm.

What crazy world is this where someone gets beaten for showing a buttplug? Everyone has an asshole, and a network of nerves (see the prior post on the vagus), glands and muscles that can be pleasured through anal penetration.

Fear/ hatred/disgust at anal sex is a vestige of homophobia; ironic since it’s one kind of sex that every one of any gender and orientation can enjoy.

While we’re not all going to start rocking buttplug amulets like the Van Bierendonck models, it’s time to get over the outsized reactions.

Add a comment and I’ll send one of you a free buttplug (possibly inflatable like the Tree, but not as huge!)
