I’m really excited about an upcoming event at the Seattle store on May 2nd. We will have Sinclair Sexsmith writer of the Sugarbutch Chronicles bringing us an evening of Dirty Queer Sex. Sexsmith has edited a new anthology called Say Please: Lesbian BDSM Erotica
and this evening will feature authors reading their stories from Say Please and many special guests! Performers include Miss Indigo Blue, Amy Butcher, BB Rydell, Lydia Swartz, & Elaina Ellis and hosted by Sinclair Sexsmith.
I’m a fan of erotica and love readings anyway, but after reading a few of the stories in Say Please, I can hardly wait till May 2nd to hear these aloud in Babeland. This event will be HOT and SEXY for sure. I mean, Miss Indigo will be here performing and I can only hope that means reading AND stripping, but we will have to wait to see.
I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of the book so that I could be a part of this really amazing blog tour to promote Say Please and the events happening around the country. Check out that link for sure, because there are 25 bloggers that are part of this tour writing up reviews of the book, and I had almost as much fun reading the blog posts as I did reading the book. After reading through the posts, I noticed that there were a few stories that were mentioned several times as favorites, The Keys by Anna Watson, A Slap in the Face by Rachel Kramer Bussel and Housewife by Gigi Frost. I was going to skip reading those so that I could focus on stories that hadn’t been mentioned yet, but I couldn’t miss a tale of role playing a 1950’s housewife that gets spanked and fucked for not having dinner ready on time; or really anything by Rachel Kramer Bussel, especially something involving slapping someone across the face publicly. It’s funny, while reading any story involving a bar, I pretty much always pictured the Wildrose or the Cuff, but when I started reading Call Me Sir by BB Rydell they WERE in the Rose, and then they mentioned the Cuff too. I quickly looked up the event listing and was excited to see that BB Rydell will be one of the readers on May 2nd! Yes. I hope there are uniforms involved in that reading involving police brutality, boot camp style training and hogtieing. Also, I hope there is hogtieing involved in the reading too. I’m not volunteering, I just want to watch.
First Ride by Wendi Kali was one of my favorites, and I read it twice to myself and once out loud to my wife who I hope was taking notes. I loved the tie-in between trusting someone enough to get on the back of their motorcycle, and trusting them enough to be their bottom. Also, who doesn’t love the fantasy of being able to pull off the side of the rode and have sex in the open where no one will see you? Where does that place exist in reality? No really, where? I want directions.
I think Baseball Cap by Miriam Zoila Pérez was a really great way to start out the book. Let readers in gently. Not too kinky, just a bit of spice to get started. As a sex educator, I love when erotica or porn includes the realities of having sex in a seamless and positive way, like getting off the bed and going through your bag to get your toys, or sliding a condom on. I loved those mentions in this story.
One of the stories that I now want to incorporate into my next role play session is Spanking Booth by Dusty Horn. Sexy butch or gender queer in dirty leather boots, tight leather pants and white tank top running a spanking booth in a gay bar (I imagine the cuff of course) when a group of gay boys brings their femme tough girl friend up for some good natured public humiliation. This story really sets the scene of the bar atmosphere so much so that I felt like I was standing by the stage watching the whole thing while I read it. The sexiest parts are in the very last bit of it, which I reread over and over again.
At first, I was planning on reading the whole book, but after I got started, I realized I wanted to savor it longer. I know there are other great stories in there just waiting for me to discover them. I’ve always been a fan of anthologies for this very reason. You can pop around the book, picking out what to taste next and when to move on. You may find something that doesn’t suit your fancy, and that’s fine, because there will surely be several others that become your next favorite one handed read.
