Tyson's Glands

A 19th century invention by physicians who assumed smegma needed to have a glandular source and was only produced by males. These "glands" are mythical. Smegma is a harmless collection of sweat and shedding cells, produced by both sexes, which provide some immune protection as well. Normal routine hygiene, for both genders, addresses this concern. Advocating circumcision of either gender to rid the body of smegma is ill-informed 19th century medicine, and part of the larger mythology used to sustain genital mutilations.
