How To Choose a Harness

Although strap-ons are considered classic lesbian accoutrement, dildo harnesses are used by people of all genders and sexual orientations. Strap-ons stir up all sorts of exciting possibilities and question fundamental assumptions about who's doing the fucking and who’s getting fucked.

Consider the possibilities:  Receive a strap-on blow job.  Fuck your partner.  Have a hard-on that lasts all night, no matter what.  Provide your partner with new sensations.  It’s no wonder that strap-on dildos and harnesses are so popular.

dildo with balls?

Dildos with balls can make an uncomfortable lump underneath a traditional harness. Try a harness like the Terra Firma or Commando, which position the entire dildo in front of the harness, or the Spareparts Joque, which provides a small pouch to tuck the balls into.
Straps to your thigh? The Thigh Harness is a great option for folks with hip, back, or mobility issues. Also great for people who want to strap it on and leave genitals completely free for play!
Good for hard packing? The Commando harness features minimal hardware, making it more comfortable and less bulky under clothes. The ever-popular Spareparts Joque Harness fits snugly and comfortably against the body under clothes.
Good for soft packing? Both the Mr. Right Packing Strap and the Deluxe Packing Pouch are perfect for your day-to-day soft packing needs.

Harness Basics

There are a few basic considerations to keep in mind while picking out a harness:

  • Materials: Most harnesses are made of leather because it is comfortable to wear and molds to your body shape over time.  However, some people prefer vinyl or nylon harnesses because they are easier to clean and vegan.
  • Style: Harnesses come in two basic models — two-strap or g-string.  Two-strap harnesses fit around your legs, keep harnesses secure, and generally keep genitals open for play.  G-string (also called one-strap harnesses) fit like a thong.  People who like G-string harnesses enjoy the friction provided by the strap running between their legs.
  • Buckles vs. D-Rings: Harness straps are fastened with either buckles or D-rings.  Buckles take longer to fasten but never slip.  D-rings have a tendency to slip, especially after a harness is worn in, but they are easily adjusted with one hand by pulling on the strap.

The easiest way to decide on a harness is to try it on.  If you live near one of our stores, stop by and we'll let you use our dressing room.  Trying on a harness over your clothes gives you a better idea of how a harness fits your unique body, how easy it is for you to adjust, and how comfortable and secure it will be while you're wearing it.
