If you found this article because you want tips on packing your sex toys for travel, you're in the wrong place (but this other article might help). The packing we're talking about is when someone puts something (sock, dildo, etc.) into their pants to make it look and/or feel as though they have a penis, noticeable bulge, or "package." People of all genders pack for lots of reasons. Some folks pack for costuming purposes, others because they want something that feels like an extension of their body. It can be about gender bending, power play, convenience, or being subversive and naughty. Whatever the reasons you choose to pack, these tips can help.

Before we get into some basic steps, first decide if you want to pack hard, soft, or somewhere in the middle. Packing hard means packing with a dildo or dick that is firm or "erect." Packing soft is a less functional way to pack, if the function you're looking for is penetration; it refers to wearing something resembling a more flaccid penis. There are some products that can also help you pack somewhere in the middle, so you can feel softer than some dils and still be able to penetrate.

Packing Hard

  1. Choose a dildo or dick that you identify with. It should have a base that will hold it securely in a harness. Longer dildos are sometimes easier to bind down with underwear, while shorter dildos are more likely to protrude straight out. Dildos are available in different materials, including latex, jelly rubber, and silicone, to name a few. Latex and jelly rubber are more affordable, for folks who want to sample packing hard before making a larger investment, but will wear more quickly and need to be replaced more often. Silicone is a high-quality material that can be sanitized and shared safely. It comes in a variety of densities from extra-firm to really soft. Some dils, like the Lonestar, and Goodfella, come with balls that can add to your packing experience. Many transmen we know love the combination of the smaller-sized Goodfella and the Spareparts Joque Harness for hard packing. The Spareparts Joque is extremely comfortable to wear while packing (and playing!) and super-adjustable.
  2. Find a comfortable harness. If you want to play with your dick, you'll need a comfortable harness. The Commando Harness, which can be either a one-strap (fits like a G-string) or a two-strap harness (fits like a jock strap), is nice because the leather softens and molds to your body. The O-rings are adjustable so you can be sure you've got the right fit for your dildo. And, if your dick has balls, the straps of the Commando can hold them nicely in place.
  3. Get a snug pair of tighty whiteys or boxer briefs. You'll want an undergarment that will help you tame the raging hard-on in your pants until you're ready to unleash it. Some other items to consider are a g-string or jock strap.
  4. Decide which way you want to dress. Which way does your dick hang? Up and to the right? Down and to the left? Arrange your dil in your underwear in the way that feels most comfortable to you.

Packing Soft

  1. Decide upon a soft packer. For ages people have been wearing rolled up socks in their pants. While this is still a somewhat effective method, there are now soft dils made with packing in mind. They've even been known to pass the squeeze test in gay male bars! Soft Packs are made from cyberskin, a material that feels very realistic and warms nicely to body temperature. They're currently available in four tones (vanilla, mocha, chocolate, and blue) and four sizes (mini, small, medium, and large). The small is a more average size that is somewhat noticeable, while the large can border on porn star. Be sure to read the care instructions for cyberskin, as it is a more fragile material that requires extra care. A newly available alternative is Mr. Right, a silicone packing dick that has very realistic balls and a small nubbin for lovin'. Pat this packer down with cornstarch for a satiny feel in your shorts!
  2. Put on your favorite undergarment. You can wear a soft pack in a pair of briefs, a G-string/thong, or a jock strap. These should all hold it firmly in place. Boxers and boxer-briefs will not hold in your softie, possibly leaving you in the position of having to retrieve it from the middle of the crosswalk.
  3. Secure your softie. If you're not into briefs, or if you are but would like extra security, you can put your softie in the toe of a pair of nylons. Tie a knot behind the balls and safety-pin the knot to the waistband of your undergarment. Alternatively, you can wear a harness such as the Commando Harness, which will also safely hold in your softie. If you choose to wear a harness, be sure that your softie fits snugly and won't slip out. A product designed expressly to help secure your softie is the Cock Sock, which works great with mini-medium soft packs.
  4. Arrange your package. If you don't have much experience with viewing packages, you might want to check out underwear ads for a better idea of how a penis hangs in a pair of briefs, jock, or bikini.

Middle of the Road

As more and more transguys are coming out and demanding more realistic products, more packers are becoming available that combine form with function; in other words, they look good and you can play with them.

  1. What they are, what they do. Mr. Bendy is a cyberskin dil that can be bent into shape. Repeated bending in the same spot will eventually break the piece that holds the dil rigid for penetration, but it has a great feel for packing. Both options will allow you to pack “realistically,” and still have some function. They're great for blow jobs, okay for vaginal penetration, and less helpful for anal penetration, as they tend to be rather soft. Similarly, they're better used with slower penetration than with hard and fast fucking. One thing to keep in mind while packing Mr. Bendy, is that there is metal in the core that will set off detectors, so make your travel and packing (pun intended!) plans accordingly.
  2. Stand up sit down fight fight fight! It's a good idea to arrange yourself however you feel most comfortable, then stand up and sit down a few times in the privacy of your own home so you know how your package is likely to shift. When it does shift, you can adjust yourself just like the rest of the guys.

Now go out and have a good time! Packing a bulge in your pants can change the ways that you feel when you're walking down the street or dancing with a partner. Have fun, experiment, and let yourself feel sexy!
