Most harnesses come in a couple of basic styles (one- and two-strap) and a choice of leather, vinyl, rubber, or nylon, but after that the details make the difference. One Strap or Two?

Ask yourself if you feel sexy in a G-string, or do you feel more “you” in a jock strap? That difference summarizes the basic harness style difference. Here are the benefits of each:

Single-strap (G-string style) harnesses:

• Single strap harnesses fit like a G-string.
• This style is easy to take on and off.
• The middle strap on most harnesses is not adjustable. Some smaller women find that the middle strap is too long for them.
• The O-ring is permanent in most of these styles.

Materials

Leather (Commando Harness, Jaguar Harness)

• Leather feels buttery soft and, to many people, it's a sexy material.
• Leather is form-fitting.
• It only gets softer with age.
• Clean by wiping down with lightly damp cloth and anti-bacterial soap and wipe dry. Do not soak and do not letter water pool on the leather.
• Many people treat their harnesses and leather goods with leather oils and conditioners to keep them looking new.

Nylon (Terra Firma)

• Nylon is a cheaper option than other materials.
• It's vegan.
• Nylon is machine-washable in cold water. Drip dry (don't put in the dryer, as the plastic parts can melt).
• The padding is neoprene and lasts for a long time.
• The straps are similar to backpack straps—some people don't like the feeling against their skin.
• It's hot tub safe!

Rubber (Rubber Harness)

• If you have a rubber fetish—and you know who you are—you'll love the foxy, solid feeling of this rubber two-strap harness, which is also bathtub safe.
• Rubber can be cleaned with anti-bacterial soap and water.
• It's vegan.

Why does it make a difference whether it has buckles or D-rings?

D-rings are almost infinitely adjustable. They are easier to tighten in mid-fuck than buckles and make it quick and easy to slip your harness on and off. Some people find that straps can loosen during sex with D-rings.

Buckles are strong and stylin'. Like your favorite belt, your harness will go on right every time once you figure out which hole is yours. A harness that buckles won't loosen on you at inconvenient times.

When would I need a snap-out O-ring?

Harnesses with permanent rings or no built-in ring at all are 1 3/4" in diameter. They will fit most dildos. If you like much larger dildos, however, forcing them into a small ring can cause them to break at the base over time. Many thinner dildos have smaller bases that can slip right through a 1 3/4” ring. The Commando Harness is a two-strap option that offers adjustable O-rings.

What is the difference between harnesses with and without the pad behind the dildo?

Some folks find that the back pad present in Terra Firma style harnesses prevents their pubic hair from getting caught between the dildo and the harness, thus giving them a smoother ride. Others prefer a harness without a pad because they enjoy the stimulation of feeling the base of the dildo against their body. Which sounds better to you?

What is the best harness to wear with dildos that have balls?

Terra Firma style harnesses are best for dildos that have balls. The balls can be bulky and awkward if stuck behind the harness. By having the dildo in front of the pad, you can show off and enjoy the visual.

How do I know what size I need?

Sizing on harnesses is pretty basic. All the nylon harnesses are one size only and fit up to about a 46-48" hip. Most of the leather harnesses come in one size as well (up to 44" hip). If you have very narrow hips, check out the patent leather Black Cat harness. The Crown harness (up to 64” waist) fits higher on your belly for easier access.

Remember, these measurements depend on where you wear your harness—lower on your hips or closer to your waist. If you decide to measure for fit, measure where you want the waist strap to go.
