Only 37% of American adults now have sex at least once a week, a sharp drop from the 1990s, but a May 2026 report found that certain cities still set the mood for intimacy better than others, with Miami, Florida, in the lead. A new study by the adult toy shop Babeland reveals which cities make dates and hookups easier.
Miami has more places to take someone on a date than any other city, with over 80 romantic restaurants, hotels, and bars in every district.
People in Minneapolis experience less anxiety and go out more, searching for date ideas twice as often as others.
Dating is hardest in Oklahoma City, where people are more stressed than anywhere else in the US, and there are barely any romantic spots.
To find which cities set the mood best for sex, the report examined how many romantic restaurants, couple-friendly hotels, and nightlife spots each place has. It also looked at online search interest for date ideas, intimate experiences, and dating apps like Tinder and Hinge to see where people are actively trying to meet someone. Cities received scores from 1 to 99 based on how easy they make it to go on dates and meet new people.

Miami is the easiest place in America to find a date or hook up. The city has around 170 romantic restaurants and more than 100 bars where residents can take someone on a date or just socialize. Locals here seem to be actively looking for action too, with 10K people searching for sex shops, and another 8K for date ideas. Plus, with only 16% having reported dealing with constant anxiety, most residents here feel up for going out and meeting new people instead of staying home alone.
Next on the list is Minneapolis, with more than 160 restaurants and bars suited for date nights. People here are way less stressed than in most other cities, as only 14% report dealing with mental distress, one of the lowest rates in the country, easing the process of going out and meeting new people. The easygoing habits are reflected in local online searches, too, with over 12K people looking up romantic date ideas, and another 2K for intimate activities like couples massage.
Atlanta ranks third, as people here haven't given up on going out yet. The city offers nearly 300 places to take someone on a date, from romantic restaurants to nightlife spots. Locals here also seem to be open to new relationships more than others, searching for dating apps about 17K times each month. Plus, the reported mental distress rate is also low (16%), which means more people feel like going out instead of doom-scrolling at home.
Boston takes fourth place as one of the least stressed cities with plenty of date options. The city has nearly 60 romantic restaurants and bars in every neighborhood, so residents can always take someone on a date, even if they are far from the city center. Bostonians surveyed also report dealing with less mental distress, with only 13% of locals stating that they experience these challenges. With anxiety levels so low, people here are actively looking for new sexual experiences too, searching for things like sex shops and lingerie stores about 29K times monthly.
Cleveland rounds out the top five, offering an active dating scene at more affordable prices than coastal cities. The city has 60 romantic restaurants and up to 10 couple-friendly hotels where partners can spend intimate time together without leaving town. Residents here take advantage of these spots too, looking up date ideas around 14K times every month. For those who aren't in relationships yet, online dating also stays popular, as about 10K people search for apps like Tinder and Hinge monthly.
Lisa Finn, sex and relationship expert at Babeland, commented on the study:
"Dating has become harder for a lot of reasons that go beyond social barriers created from apps or technology. Housing costs keep people living with roommates or families well into their thirties, which can make it awkward to bring someone home, or difficult to find privacy for intimate moments. People also feel busier and more stressed, leaving less time and energy to meet others. At the same time, mental health challenges are more common (or at least more commonly reported), which can affect motivation and confidence. But this report also shows how much the environment matters, too. Some cities simply make it easier for people to go out, meet others, and build the connections they're looking for."
