There are a lot of great books in the world and some of my favorites are written by lesbian authors. Books by queer men and women give us different voices and perspectives; they can tell new stories or old stories in different ways. They help us see things about ourselves, no matter what our sexual orientation is.At Babeland, we carry books by
Ducky Doolittle,
Annie Sprinkle,
Diana Cage and
Ariel Shrag, to name a few. These women are smart, sassy, sexy and should be supported in their writing. That's why I'm happy to pass this piece of information on: The Astrea Lesbian Writers Fund is giving away $10,000 to lesbian writers. The fund supports the work of emerging lesbian writers, and acknowledges the contributions of established lesbian writers to our movement and culture. First place awardees in each category receive $10,000, and there are additional cash prizes for runners-up. This year's deadline for application is Friday, June 30, 2006.For more information, check out their
