Are you tired of hearing about the Brooklyn Babeland? I'm not, but I am amazed at the amount of press coverage we've been getting. Who knew that a little sex toy shop could stir up so much publicity and excitement. As you saw from Taylor's post yesterday, Babeland made the evening news in droves.Channel 4 has an online poll where you can vote 'yes' or 'no' to wanting a store in Park Slope. Right now the 'yes's are winning by quite a bit!Channel 9: Channel 9 said there was an 'uproar' over the opening. I hate to break it to them but one cranky lady on the street does not an uproar make, although I do have to give it to them for using the words 'sex positive' so much. They probably don't know what it means, but they got it out there.Channel 11: (watch the video here) had it right by mentioning that it's a store geared towards women and interviewing some pretty hilarious people on the street ("women love sex, and they need it"). They do say, however, that Babeland was inspired by Sex in the City which is blatantly wrong. Sex in the City started what, 6 years ago? Babeland has been around for 15. If anything, I'd say that Babeland inspired Sex in the City! The best stories, however, came from Channel 2 and Channel 5. Both did a great job of contrasting Babeland with the more mainstream sex shop and both portrayed Babeland as it really is - fun and empowering, educational and inspirational. You can watch the Channel 2 video here and the Channel 5 video here.Mainstream media aren't the only ones who are excited. To get a sneak peak at the store, the best place to go is this video by the Brooklyn Paper. Besides the fact that the host seems to really want to distance himself from the fact that he might be interested in sex toys, the video is great and much longer than the news clips. I've embedded the video below so you can see it!The blogs have also been on it. Thanks Bklink, Brownstoner the Brooklynian and Daily Intel for mentioning the store!
