voteIn all the hub-ub of the general election, I've overlooked some other, extremely important things that we all must know. First, there are more anti-choice democrats running for congress than any time in recent history so, we could get everything we want except for the right to make our own decisions about our bodies.Second, tons of awesome women are running in some pretty amazing areas like Kay Hagen in North Carolina. Please support their campaigns if you have any money left. Then there's California. Ballot Iniatives mean that Californians are voting on some extremely important issues on November 4. If you live in California and you figured that you didn't need to vote because Obama was going to win your state, please think again. And everyone - anyone who knows people in California, talk to them about this legislation:1. Prop 2: This isn't really under the purview of Babeland but it's an animal rights bill and if you appreciate where the food on your table comes from, you'll vote YES on this one.2. Prop 4: The anti-choicers are back for the third time trying to pass this parental notification bill forcing teens to tell their parents if they're going to have an abortion. This is a tough issue for some people because it seems logical that we'd want teens to talk to their parents about these issues. The funny thing? This legislation doesn't even work. Here are the facts:
  • Most teens already tell their parents about their abortions
  • Most doctors encourage teens to tell their parents about their abortions
  • Some teens can't tell their parents because they'll get kicked out, beat up or killed
We need legislation that protects ALL teens. Vote NO on Prop 4. Check out this video made by a friend of mine for all of the talking points you'll need.3. Prop 8: California legalized gay marriage - now they want to take it away again. Help us put this to rest for once and for all so that other states will be able to step up and join the movement. Again, another hilarious video (I don't know why they're all Apple themed, but so be it. Apple donated $100,000 in support of gay marriage in California - they just got a loyal customer for life from me. Vote NO on Prop 8.
