evilpinkSometimes in this job it feels like everything I love is under attack. State legislators are trying to ban sales of sex toys and the religious right is steadily chipping away at my right to reproductive choices. Thank goodness they legalized sodomy!Another front on which the "moral majority" takes the high ground is pornography. Starting next week, they will launch Protection from Pornography Week - devoted to judging those of us who enjoy watching naked people have sex.The organizations behind this week go so far as to say that a picture of a woman in a swimsuit or a lingerie catalog can cause pornography addition within "a week". I'm not kidding. See one Victoria's Secret ad on Monday and you'll be holding the remote in one hand and a box of tissues in the other by Saturday - a hopeless case. Now, I understand the arguments that people make against pornography. I've turned off or fast-forwarded movies that I just couldn't watch. I've also drooled over some of my favorite scenes, learned new tricks, and watched my fantasies play out on the screen. That's the thing about porn - there might be quite a bit of crap out there, but there's a fair amount of really good work as well - you just have to know how to find it.xanaanddaxBefore I started working at Babeland, I hadn't seen a lot of porn. That all changed through Babeland's rentals program. I learned there's a lot of porn out there that is specifically trying not to be like your run-of-the-mill porn. It's trying to be special - and boy is it ever. There's women-made porn, indie porn, queer porn, and much more. I watched everything I could get my hands on so that when people came in looking for something new and different than what they could get at the 24 hour place in Times Square, I could help them. So, in honor of Protection from Pornography Week, I'm going to watch at least one porn clip every day next week. It might not be a whole movie - but I'll watch a little bit of porn each day and review it here on the blog. No, I'm not addicted. I just think it's possible to have a healthy relationship with sex on film and I'm tired of people trying to tell me what should and shouldn't turn me on.Want to join me? Post a comment and tell me what porn you're watching in honor of Protection from Pornography Week. If you need some ideas, check out our fantastic porn collection or stop into one of our stores to rent or buy.
