According to an article at
Forbes.com/MSNBC, ACNielsen, a market research firm, researched american's condom buying habits and compiled a list of the "
most lustful cities in the US". They compiled the average amount of
condoms purchased at drug and grocery stores and then looked to see which cities were over or under that average. The article notes that cities like New York and Los Angeles are not on the list while cities like Denver and Cincinnati are. I don't know exactly why it is that on average, people in Cincinnati buy more condoms than New Yorkers. If they actually use them more, then congratulations. Maybe New Yorkers are all getting their
condoms at Babeland! Also, just a small side-note to say that I'm not sure if measuring condoms purchased is necessarily an accurate predictor of lust as there are many, many activities that someone can lust for that do not involve needing condoms. The article also interviews Anne Seamans, marketing director for Babeland, about the increasing interest in vibrators by women in general as well as the use of sex toys by partners. As Anne says:
"For years, the people who bought our sex toys were women trying to learn how to orgasm or masturbate, and they did it in private," says Semans. "In the last [few] years, it was a noticeable change that women were buying and using sex toys with their partners. It's reached a level of acceptance it hadn't before."
Also, if you're a regular website customer, here's a little data on where most of you come from tied in to the "lustful cities" list. I remember seeing a map once from Babeland that showed that we'd shipped toys from our website to every single state. That made me really happy!
From Jan. 1 through Nov. 30, 2007, New Yorkers frequented the site more than residents of any other city, comprising 22 percent of its total traffic. Seattle, the third most lustful city on our list, was second to New York, making up 9 percent of the site's visitors. Portland, Ore., and Washington, D.C., were two other cities in our top 10 that also contributed a significant portion of Babeland's online traffic.
