It's once again time for the
Capitol Hill Art Walk. In July, Babeland Seattle featured the sublime photography of
Dale Rio; this month, the last sultry walk of summer, we move into the realm of street art/pop-surrealist inspired work. Noelle Walker combines traditional and non-traditional mediums (spray paint, chalk, pencil, and marker) to take a layered, graffiti aesthetic from the streets and onto the gallery wall. In combining disparate elements and settings, the very mediums and environments speak of the multi-layered trans* experience."It has been said that a transexual's story is written on their body. Artist Noelle Walker?s work is concerned with that idea --- the juxtaposition of body and the word, construction and self-construction, text and subtext. It refocuses W.E.B. DuBois' concept of 'twoness' on transgenderism. Her pieces are in spray paint, other times drawn in marker that will sometimes eat through other parts of the work. The media used is often permanent, bold, and solid."Join Babeland Seattle for the first peek of Noelle?s month-long exhibit. When: Tuesday August 12th. 6-9pmWhere: Babeland Seattle, 707 E.
