TiStock_000006421541XSmall.JPGhe New York Times reports today that seniors are having more sex and having more positive feelings about sex than they were three decades ago. The percentage of married men who say they are having sex increased from 52 percent in 1971 to 68 percent this year. In the 1970's, less than 1 percent of unmarried senior women were having sex, now it's up to 12 percent. Seniors also report having better sex lives although the article does not report percentages.Although I'm thrilled that seniors are having more sex, the part that really makes me happy is that they're having better sex and that they have more positive feelings about the sex that they're having. For these people, in their 30's during the 1960's, sex has maybe become a little bit less taboo. What will this mean for seniors in their 30's during the 1970's? Good Vibrations had opened, Betty Dodson started spreading her message of masturbation, porn was on the big screen and women were watching it. With possible exposure to these events, I can only imagine that a decade from now, these statistics will make me even happier! We still live in a sexually repressive society, but for the most part, the trend is towards less repression. This has far reaching repercussions from the success of stores like Babeland to the sexual satisfaction of seniors. How will the generation of New Yorkers that spent their 30s shopping at Babeland feel about sex when they're 70? I plan on being around to find out!
