The UK's equivalent of the FDA just approved a
testosterone patch for women with low sex drives. Before you get too excited, the patch will only be available for women who have early menopause because of surgery.Testosterone is one factor of the complex mix of chemistry, emotions and societal influences that makes up our sex drives. Will this patch be a cure-all for women who have low libidos? For some, it's possible but testosterone isn't the answer for everyone. The pleasure women get out of sex, how they feel with their partners, how they feel when masturbating... all of these play into libidos as well - not to mention stress at work and children. Working in our stores, I've met women in their 60s who have never had an orgasm. If I had gone most of my life without experiencing extraordinary pleasure, I would have a low libido too.Dan Savage, in his column
Savage Love, recently answered
questions about low libidos. The
responses he got from women with high libidos are fantastic and fun to read.
