Babeland possesses a carnally knowledgeable staff of folks who are devoted to promoting and celebrating sexual vitality by providing an honest, open and fun environment; but did you know that we?ve a diverse skill set outside the realm of sexpertise? Spanning our three retail stores and thriving online business, we proudly boast painters and video artists, writers and musicians, burlesque divas and DJs, students and more than a few rockin? moms. With a line-up like that, it may be hard to imagine more; but then along comes Lamalani.Lamalani has been with Babeland Seattle since 1999. Outside of her nine year (!) reign in sex education, she?s a drummer, a motorcycle afficionada, a martial arts instructor, and the holder of a degree in biology. It may seem that plumping her curriculum vitae would be impossible, but she?s done it regardless: we?d like to congratulate Lamalani on her new title of Washington State Ms. Leather.Begun in 1983,
Mr. Leather is Washington State?s oldest title contest; Vik Stump added the Ms. Leather title in 1989. For the Ms. Leather section of the night?s events, Lamalani partook of a judged social meet-n-greet, a judges? interview, a speech, a pop question, and a fantasy performance; but aside from the fun and competition, Lama stresses, ?it?s really about community and activism.? During the year, she will be appearing at other local contests (such as Leather Sir/boy) and hosting two fundraisers to benefit non-profits of her choosing. Already, she is booked for a
Home Alive fundraiser, along with appearances at Olympia and Seattle Pride,
Desire Women?s Leather Conference, and
International Ms. Leather.Talk about having a lot on your plate! We at Babeland would like to wish our friend and coworker the warmest of congratulations, and best wishes for even more titles to come.
