I was teaching a workshop the other night and I kept getting questions about vibrators. I was glad that people spoke up and asked because the questions they had were very common vibrator myths. I decided that I'd talk about these myths just so we can get things cleared up and all start off on the same foot.
Myth #1: You can get addicted to your vibratorThis myth is very common and it's understandable why. Our unique bodies enjoy many kinds of stimulation and some kinds work better than others. For some people, tongues will do the trick. For others, fingers are where you want to go. Still others find that vibration is the best guide on the path to orgasm. Smart people will stick to what works for them - be that oral, digital or electric action. So can you be addicted to your vibrator? Yes, but only in the way that we're addicted to our favorite sweater or the chocolate mousse at that fancy restaurant - why settle for anything less?
Myth #2: Vibrators cause lasting nerve damageAh, our lovely nerves. Did you know that the clitoris has over 5000 nerve endings? This plethora of sensation-receiving spots thrive on vibration. Sometimes, if something has been vibrating on a nerve ending for awhile, it will become temporarily numb. You can see this if you hold a vibrator up to your finger as well. But, nerve endings are more resilient than that - they'll come back to their full potential if you give them a little break.
Myth #3: After I get a vibrator, I won't need other people
Although I did just say that for some people vibration is the best way to get off, that doesn't mean it's the only way. No battery operated toy can replace how hot it is when someone who wants you nibbles on your ear or caresses the inside of your elbow. Human touch and chemistry are impossible to recreate with a vibrator. That doesn't mean, however, that you'll need to forget about vibrators entirely - there are
lots of fun ways to incorporate vibrators into your partner play; they're not just for when you're flying solo.
Myth #4: Everyone likes the same kind of vibratorOne of my mantras here at Babeland is that everyone is different. Therefore, everyone likes different kinds of vibrators. If there were one "best" vibrator, then Babeland wouldn't need to exist because everyone could just buy that magical toy. Instead, there are a multitude of vibrators and places like Babeland are here to help you figure out what the best kind of vibration is for you. Whether it's the slow rumble of the
Hummingbird, the fast buzzing of the
Silk Touch or the dual action of the
Rabbit, there's usually something for everyone. If you have questions about how to find the right vibe, check out our
how-to or stop in to one of the
stores. Nothing compares to picking them up and feeling them for yourself.I hope this has helped answer some questions. If you knew that these were myths already, spread the news to all of your friends. If there are other myths you'd like me to comment on, just let me know in the comments section.
